First level crossing with active signalling

There are already 18 level crossings in Slovakia equipped with Scheidt & Bachmann's BUES 2000 technology. But only this year we have managed to enrich one of them with a new practical functionality.

The railway crossing in the village of Bartošovce (Bardejov district), located on the 30.411 railway kilometres between the towns Prešov and Bardejov, has been equipped with our BUES 2000 railway signalling technology since 2022.

"Originally, it should have been launched with the so-called active signalling. This is a functionality that the public knows as flashing white lights on railway traffic lights. However, we needed to undergo a certification process to put this functionality into operation. Although this solution is already used by Scheidt & Bachmann in the Czech Republic, for example, we have not yet received approval in Slovakia," explains Ing. Marek Gajdula, Sales and Project Manager at Scheidt & Bachmann Slovensko, and continues, "As the processing of the relevant permits was constantly prolonged, we launched the crossing in 2022 with red traffic warning lights in front of the railway crossing and barriers only."

In the end, the certification process stretched on for more than 2 years. As soon as the relevant permits were obtained, we got to work – manufacturing the necessary equipment and doing all the engineering work required to launch the active signalling. We handed over the improved level crossing to Slovak Railways in January 2024. During this year, the level crossing will be under the scrutiny of experts so that it can be put into operation.

And once again we have a reason to celebrate. Our 1st level crossing with active signalling opens the door to other Slovak level crossing projects. We thank Marek Gajdula and his team for their great work and keep our fingers crossed for future projects.

    Did you know...

...if the level crossing is equipped with an active signalling and the white light on the traffic light flashes regularly:

    • the level crossing is fully operational,
    • there are no train in the so-called perimeter of the crossing (on the lines near the level crossing),
    • drivers can cross the level crossing at a speed of 50 km/h (if the white light is not on, the speed limit is only 30 km/h)!
