Our IT center is shining again

The IT center was originally a production hall, which was no longer sufficient for our expanding production. Therefore, in 2020, it was moved to a newly built hall in Bytča.

We had been planning for some time to transform the original hall into a modern center that would bring together all our software divisions scattered across three different locations in Žilina under one roof. However, the coronavirus pandemic temporarily put these plans on hold.

We finally began the reconstruction at the beginning of 2022, and in May 2023, we ceremoniously opened our IT center. However, we only enjoyed it for a short time. On October 16, 2023, it was destroyed by flames, and we had to start all over again.

The very next day after the fire, we began cleaning up the aftermath and completely reconstructing the building. Only the steel structure remained of the original building in the central, most affected part. The weather was on our side, and the work progressed exactly according to schedule, so at the beginning of 2025, the software teams began moving back into their old offices. Everyone was happy to be back and agreed that our IT center is even more beautiful than it was before the fire.

It took a lot of work and a big investment. However, the family of founders and the Management board of Scheidt & Bachmann believe in the potential of our Slovak employees and therefore decided to give the IT center a second chance. They saw the result with their own eyes on Friday, April 4, 2025, during the second grand opening of the IT center.

The heart of the IT center is the atrium – a large space with a stage, auditorium, and large LED screen, where we organize company events. It includes a cloakroom, tea kitchen and space for team retrospectives.

In front of the atrium there are four meeting rooms of various sizes named after the colors of our divisions – Blue, Red, Yellow, and Green. Next to them are so-called phone booths – spaces for concentrated individual work or phone calls. And we use them often.

Behind the atrium there are the testing areas of three divisions:

• Fare Collection Systems – here we test passenger equipment (subway gates, ticket validators, and ticket machines).
• Energy Retail Solutions – here we verify the functionality of cash register systems, self-service cash registers, and mobile applications for leading global leaders in the field of petrol stations.
• Parking Solutions – here we test parking systems with barriers, ticketless and hybrid parking systems, automatic cash registers and parking applications.

Above the testing facilities there is a spacious sports area designed for active relaxation. Since we mainly work at computers, we compensate for our sedentary profession with active breaks: we play table football (fussball), table tennis, billiards, cornhole, or exercise on a TRX workout set, or climb one of the marked climbing routes. There is also a large space for group exercises. Many colleagues stay here after work, either playing board games or competing on the Xbox.

We spend most of our working time in the offices, of course. They are located around the perimeter of the IT center and are flooded with daylight thanks to large windows. Each of us has enough space for our work and has access to modern technology, height-adjustable desks, and ergonomic chairs. Flowers give the offices a homely feel. Some offices have been transformed into small jungles thanks to the exemplary care of our colleagues who take care of the plants.

Our favorite meeting places are the kitchens, where a coffee machine is a must. We are known as coffee lovers, but we also have tea drinkers and advocates of healthy drinking of pure water. We sometimes enjoy a cup of coffee and small talk in various couch and armchair nooks scattered throughout the center.

If we had to define the style of the IT center in one word, it would be industrial. Under the ceiling, you can see the ventilation system and steel structure, which makes the interior feel airy and spacious. And does it shine? It certainly does, because everything inside is pure white. Except for the original stickers on the walls, glass panels, and doors, which refer to our four divisions. The atmosphere is softened by wooden walls, accessories, and slats that create a feeling of home. But rather than seeing or reading about our IT center a hundred times, it's better to experience it in person.
