We turned our phones off and pit our table tennis skills

What to do on a free weekend? Here in S&B, we arrange a tournament!

A lot of skilled people work for our company. They are not only specialists, but also folks with passion for sports. If there is no sports event on the weekend, they can easily organize one by themselves. It was so also on Saturday, October 20, 2018.

2nd year of the S&B table tennis tournament

A group of 18 our employees exchanged Saturday relax for a table tennis tournament. Every software and even the production department was represented and even the colleagues from Bratislava came. The only entry condition for our tournament was that the players could not be registered in any table tennis league, and so the tournament was well-balanced (even though, some matches equalled ordinary league matches in the quality and speed).

Everyone got dressed in their sports clothes, withdrew their favourite rackets and gathered around one of the game tables to fill it up with trophies, game plan and snacks.

    All electronics got stop

You would have vainly found computers and phones in the S&B table tennis tournament. Our employees made do only with their own heads and classic watches. The sports event worked as a digital detox as well.

Another point of the tournament was a trophy for defeated players which was given to the winner of the players who wavered in the elimination round.

If you thought that the tournament was a piece of cake, let us set you right. Every player had to play at least 7 or maximum of 10 matches. There was no time for resting because the players could sit only one match.

    The tournament tree

In the group stage, the players played 45 games. They played 2 sets of 11 points each. Based on the players‘ group positions, the tournament tree was created.

In the semi-finals, competitors played for 2 winning sets and 4 best players pit their strength against each other in the finale. In the end, the winner trophy went to our Bratislava colleagues Tomáš Benč, who defeated the last year’s winner Roman Veselovský in the semi-finals and Dušan Šeba in the finale.

The whole tournament was played on 7 tables within 4 hours. The organizer of the tournament was Tomáš Trúchly from the Fare Collection department. He kept an eye on the smooth tournament course, he checked on the water intake, and he also took care of the players‘stomachs with his supply of baguettes and candies. “I’m very happy that the second year of the table tennis tournament was a success. Every department was represented and our colleagues showed us once again that table tennis is our company’s favourite sport. I hope that we will meet up again next year even in double numbers.“
