Almost 22 million steps a month? No problem in Scheidt & Bachmann!

It is said that May is the month of love! We at Scheidt & Bachmann celebrated the love by the love of movement. And we started with the most natural one – a step.

Step Challenge, as the competition was called by its organisers – FCS Culture team, who take care about colleagues from Fare Collection Systems (FCS) division – had its premiere last year. In that time only employees from FCS division measured and compared their steps.

This year, the challenge was open to all employees. In the end, 57 of them took part. All divisions and branches were represented – in Žilina, Bratislava and in Bytča.

The participants set a high pace from the beginning and in order to keep it up till the end, the organizers prepared 3 bonuses:

    • 1st speed premium – was won by Martin Straka from the Fuel Retail Solutions division, because he was the first to walk 123,000 steps (5th May).
    • 2nd speed premium – Martin Straka was again the first to take 321,000 steps (12th May).
    • 3rd mountain premium – had a winner from Signalling Systems division, Roman Murarik walked the most steps during the weekend – 120,272 (21st – 22nd May).

The top of the step leaderboard was constantly changing throughout May and at the end of the month there was literally a battle of titans that decided the podium:

    • 1st place – Martin Straka (Fuel Retail Solutions) – 1,162,318 steps,
    • 2nd place – Gabriela Ostertágová (Fare Collection Systems) – 1,152,155 steps,
    • 3rd place – Roman Murárik (Signalling Systems) – 1,002,626 steps.

In addition to congratulations and applause from colleagues, the winners were also rewarded with gift vouchers.

And because of the fact that each individual was a member of a division in which he or she works, the organizers also evaluated the team competition. The results are:

    • 1st place – Fuel Retail Solutions (FRS),
    • 2nd place – Fare Collection Systems (FCS),
    • 3rd place – Production Bytča,
    • 4th place – Signalling Systems (SiS),
    • 5th place – Parking Solutions (PS),
    • 6th place – Cross Functions.

The winning team Fuel Retail Solutions became the holder of the perpetual trophy and displayed it in a place of honour.

In sum, an incredible number appeared on the company account at the end of the challenge – 21,711,494 steps! We applaud to the amazing performance of everyone involved!

How do the organisers rate this year's challenge?

"Very positively, because its main purpose was to motivate colleagues to increase their movement. And judging by the feedback from the participants, we succeeded in doing so. We also witnessed some truly admirable performances, some of them seemed almost unbelievable. Next year, we would like to focus on rewarding endurance rather than actual performance so that even 'mere mortals' have a chance to win. We will also look for ways to simplify the step entry process, but only in such a way that, as before, everyone who wants to take that one extra step can participate. In any case, we want to make this challenge another company tradition that will last as long as we all enjoy it," says Peter Vlček, one of the organizers and a member of the FCS Culture team.
